Fruit

2016
Bronze, James grieve apple tree

Wang Sishun has planted a local fruit tree at Cass Sculpture Foundation, and will cast the fruits into bronze each subsequent year. There will be an annual harvest of the fruit, resulting in a bronze piece of work every year.It is important to Wang Sishun that the fruit tree is never the same annually, meaning that the bronze work will also never be the same, as the weather and temperature effects the size and the number of fruits.

About The Artist

Wang Sishun creates work in mixed media, incorporating sculpture, performance and installation. His work investigates material, spatial and temporal means of transformation. He seeks to both undermine and expand these assumptions through his material practice. He uses ready-made, found objects and raw materials to exploit their physical properties and create new relationships that call into question assumptions about their material characteristics. Wang is also interested in exploring the associative nature of materials to inject symbolism into his work.
