Aaron Angell's work is concerned with hobbyist cultures, non-canonical history, and marginal methods of image making. He works in ceramic sculpture and a variety of other media and draws on references such as the Industrial Revolution, his own ancestral history and psychedelic poetry. He is the founder of Troy Town Art Pottery, a radical and psychedelic ceramic workshop for artists in London. Angell set up Troy Town in response to the increased levels of artists working in ceramics in London, without access to kiln processes. His ambition with Troy Town was to create a non-craft specific workshop for artists working in ceramics to be able to work with this medium. He is interested in ceramics within the expanded notion of sculptural practice, divorced from the terrain of craft and design.
