Spatial Matters: Wang Wei, Rania Ho and Zhang Ruyi

Kenneth Clark Lecture Theatre, The Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, London, WC2R 0RN

External Symposium

In this seminar, the artists Rania Ho and Wang Wei will discuss Arrow Factory, an independently run art space they founded in a former vegetable shop in a Beijing hutong in 2008 with curator Pauline Yao. Arrow Factory provides a space where art can be exhibited as part of the everyday life of urban city dwellers, providing an alternative to commercial, white cube gallery spaces in isolated art districts, commonly found in Beijing. The shop front nature of the space means that exhibitions are on view 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They will be joined by the young Shanghai-based artist, Zhang Ruyi, who uses concrete and other everyday materials to explore how architecture and technology influence social connections.

Presented by the Research Forum in collaboration with Cass Sculpture Foundation.
